Our ancestors knew the importance of observing the different patterns and cycles of nature. They understood how to bridge the spiritual realms into the physical plane for deep healing and transformation.

In this journey, we remember together. We honor the wisdom handed down to us, learning to walk with the elements, to work with the plants as allies, and to return to earth-based practices that restore harmony within and around us.

You will learn about folk herbalism through indigenous cosmovision, what herbs to use for physical healing, their spiritual use and meaning, traditional methods of diagnosing imbalance, and how to incorporate ritual and ceremony for healing and protection.

We will sit with the teachings of the four sacred elements—Air, Fire, Water, and Earth—listening for their voices, learning their meanings, and understanding how they live within nature and within ourselves. We will call upon them in ritual, asking them to help us restore balance in our bodies and in our lives.

SOHEM goes beyond herbalism and dives deep into ancestral wisdom on healing, spirituality, ritual and ceremony.

The course is structured through four blocks and we will spend two weeks focusing on one block.

Block 1: E A R T H - What is folk herbalism, Plant spirit medicine, and Earth-based healing.

• Understanding how to work with plant spirit medicine

• How to connect and communicate with plant spirits

• Introduction into Earth-based healing practices

• The meaning and medicine of the four directions

• Significance of the Altar and how create an altar using the directions as a foundation for ritual and ceremony

• Understanding the Earth element

Block 2: W A T E R - Understanding the emotional body & emotional diseases

• Emotions and the body

• Understanding functions of organs and emotional connection

• Understanding Susto (fright), Envidia (jealousy), Mal de Ojo (evil eye), Bilis (Rage) and their effects on physical and spiritual health

• Working with the dream realms

• How to build intuition

• How to conduct herbal steams, herbal foot baths, herbal baths, water limpias for ceremonial cleansing and healing

• Understanding the element of Water

Block 3: F I R E - Tapping into our truth and power

• The medicine of Platicas (heart straightening conversation)

• How to conduct a platica for heart opening and soul retrieval

• The power of spoken word and planting spirit

• Utilizing Fire for healing and transformation

• Discussing the medicine of Tobacco and how to work with this plant in a safe, respectful, and sacred way.

• Candle rituals, Fire ceremony, White Fire Ceremonies, Rage rituals

• Understanding the element of Fire

Block 4: A I R - The nervous system and the power of vision

• Understanding the role of the nervous system

• The different brain wave states and understanding how to use each for reprograming, karma cutting, and healing

• Understanding “Mal Aire” (bad wind) and wind/cold conditions

• How to conduct smoke cleanse, house limpias, and rituals to connect to the Air element

• Understanding the Air element
